ToT Workshops – Training of Trainers for Water and Waste Actors
SCEJU’s ToT workshops build technical and advocacy skills among informal waste and water actors to strengthen urban sustainability from the ground up.
ToT Workshops
Training of Trainers for Water and Waste Actors
The Training of Trainers (ToTs) workshops are a foundational strategy within the SCEJU Project for strengthening technical knowledge and leadership among local actors in Kenya’s urban informal settlements. Conducted across Kisumu, Nakuru, and Makueni counties, these workshops engage informal waste handlers, water providers, youth leaders, and women’s groups in structured, high-impact learning sessions.
Key workshop modules include:
- Kenya’s Sustainable Waste Management Act (2022) and Water Act (2016)
- Circular economy and resource recovery
- Environmental health and climate-smart waste systems
- Stakeholder mapping and advocacy tools
Trainings incorporate participatory methods—such as role-plays, breakout sessions, and field-based case studies—and conclude with post-training mentoring. Trained participants cascade knowledge within their networks, strengthening county-level governance and contributing to improved urban service delivery and environmental health outcomes.
